Abstract

Computer-based plant monitoring systems for the electric power industry are increasingly required to have sophisticated user interfaces. Computer color graphics is being used in most cases to meet the requirement.

The need for the color graphics system to be discussed arose from business opportunities at Technology for Energy Corporation. The author was assigned to design and implement the color graphics system after expressing an interest in doing it to satisfy the requirements of a thesis for The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The author relied heavily on Technology for Energy Corporation's previous experience in color graphics in nuclear plants to design the new system. The system is now operational in the designated power plant and will be used in future monitoring systems.
