Abstract
This is a study of different seams of coal in the Southern Appalachian field, The first work of its kind so far as is known except that carried on by the U. S. Bureau of Mines. The study is different from theirs in that the samples taken by the Government are tipple samples and the samples used in this study are face samples taken from the mines, Assistance was rendered in cutting the samples at the mines by Mr. D. L. Lindamood, Mining Engineer Blue Diamond Coal Co.
