Abstract

With the technological advances made to date, the availability of computers and packaged programming has become virtually unlimited. Programs are designed to be compatible with a number of hardware systems. However, there remains a gap in this advancement and availability of programming, that being the many non-compatible micro computer systems. This gap becomes wider still when considering Structural Engineering programs specifically written for hardware of limited storage capacity.


This thesis attempts to bridge that gap partially by providing programming for a number of fundamental design and analysis applications specifically prepared for an Epson V HX-20 32K byte storage basic language machine.

The programs written were chosen primarily on a frequency-of-use basis for practicing Structural Engineers. Further, the programs are user friendly and provide thorough and understandable documentation of results for inclusion in contract calculations.

The results of all programs were verified by other computing systems, by hand computed solutions, or by both methods.

Examples, user information, flow charts, and copies of the program are included to make adaptation of the programs to other basic language micro computers as easy as possible.

After using the included programs on a regular professional basis, the writer has concluded that, though some perform reasonably simple engineering tasks, they are of enormous value for documentation and time-saving purposes.
