Abstract

Computer-Aided Drafting in architecture is the process of creating drawings with the help of a computer. This process does not involve any decision making which relates to designing a building. However, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) in architecture includes creating a building design using a Computer-Aided Drafting system, using the information about the building from the drawing files, evaluating the building design and giving directives for improving the design.


Computer-Aided Drafting systems are being used in the architectural profession and in academic environments. However, there are no Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems available to aid architects in the design process. In this thesis, Computer-Aided Architectural Design (CAAD), an integrated CAD system for architects is developed. This system will be helpful in the design process and should not affect the architect's originality. A prototype model of this system has been developed on an IBM PC AT running the DOS operating system.
