Abstract

In order to control a three-phase induction motor in a similar fashion to that of a DC machine, the induction motor equivalent circuit must be analyzed in terms of torque and field current quantities. This paper develops the Inverse Gamma model as an alternative equivalent circuit model for the induction motor and uses it to illustrate how torque and flux quantities can be independently controlled. The concept of field oriented control is explained using characteristics of this model. A simple, indirect field oriented control diagram is developed and simulated.
