Abstract
Rilke's Cornet, Hofmannstahl's Reitergeschichte, and Schnitzler's Leutnant Gustl are examined in terms of values and their decline in the areas of the military, the family, religion. and life and death. Cornet glorifies all of these values, and serves as the example. In Reitergeschichte, the decline begins, and Leutnant Gustl portrays the absolute debasement of these values.
