Abstract

In the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, a region encompassing Nashville, Tennessee, was declared "nonattainment for ozone" and placed in the "Moderate" category. As a result, an emissions inventory of volatile organic compounds, oxides of nitrogen, and carbon monoxide had to be prepared and submitted to EPA. This region must be in attainment by November 15, 1996, and such attainment must be shown via computer modeling using the Urban Airshed Model. This emission inventory was the emission basis for this modeling work.

The purpose of this study was to take the emission inventory, which was done at county-level resolution, and geographically convert it to emissions originating in 5 kilometer square grid cells. The methods for doing this data conversion and graphic results are presented in this study.

This study includes graphs and charts comparing emissions by type of source, by spatial surrogate, and by county. Emission density maps showing emissions in the 5 kilometer square grid cells are also included.
