Abstract

This collection of poetry explores the moment when a speaker looks so closely at the world that the gap that separates the self from the other falls entirely away. There is no longer a differentiation between the speaker and the outside world. In each of these poems the speaker makes a discovery about the way the world works. She is trying to recognize new ways to make connections between the self and the other. By looking hard at the object in front of her, by examining it intimately, the speaker discovers something about who she is.
