Greek advisors' perceptions of sorority hazing : a replication study

This study determined the current perceptions of Greek advisors regarding hazing in sororities by replicating the Shaw and Morgan (1990) study. For this study, 230 Greek advisors were surveyed and the responses were compared to the data from the 1990 study. Changes from 1990 to 1997 were evaluated by using the chi-square testing procedure and the only significant changes that were found between the two studies were in the actual hazing activities that are most prevalent.

Further contributions of this study include the presentation of Arnold Van Gennep's theory of rites of passage in the attempt to explain why hazing occurs in sororities.
