Abstract

Soil erosion is sometimes a problem when a conventional seedbed has been prepared for seeding alfalfa on sloping land. No-till seeding of alfalfa can help prevent erosion, as well as conserve moisture, decrease water runoff and save time and labor. The cost of establishment is usually less for notill, because chemical costs are lower than the cost of preparing a conventional seedbed. Successful no-till establishment of alfalfa depends on following all of the recommended steps.
