This track will entertain presentations and posters on the topic of compassion fatigue management. This area of veterinary social work includes issues such as vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and burn out in animal related settings, stress management, conflict resolution and mediation, communication skills. Programs of research, programmatic innovations accompanied by evaluation data, and theoretical perspective papers grounded in scholarly literature review are encouraged.
Topics could include but are not limited to:
•Compassion fatigue management in animal shelters
•Conflict resolution or mediation in animal rights
•Stress management techniques for animal related professional students
•Communication skills for “animal people”
•Defining compassion fatigue
•Cultural differences in grief or stress management among animal related professionals
•Psycho-education for animal related professionals
•Team building activities for building resilience for animal welfare professionals
