Abstract

A natural step in the evolution of microprocessor based computer system architecture is that of distributed processing: In our intelligent distributed system, microcomputers that are dedicated to specific tasks communicate with a mainframe computer to improve through-put and to share common software building blocks. This requires the successful coordination of many hardware and software tasks. Intercomputer communication is the most important of these. We developed a software interface which allows an 8o8o microcomputer to emulate the operation of a terminal on a DECsystem 10 timesharing system. This project enables the use of voicegrade telephone lines to transmit information to and from the timesharing computer to a microcomputer.

The communication programs, written entirely in the PL/M language, will be made available through CP/M User's Group
