The Wake of Boreas : a work in electronic multimedia
The purpose of this study was to examine the use of electronic music in multimedia presentations in order to provide a background for the work, The Wake of Boreas, recently composed by this author. Four contemporary multimedia works were chosen to be explored in view of the current state of the art of electronic multimedia.
The means used to compile the background information for this paper involved the reading of various texts on the subject of electronic music as well as the attendance of several recent festivals of electronic music. The procedures used in composing The Wake of Boreas involved electronic tape synthesis and color photography.
The findings of this research indicate that the success of an electronic multimedia work depends largely upon the proper integration of the various elements which make up the work. The Wake of Boreas reflects an integration of elements through the synchronization of slides and music, both in time and in subject matter.
