An annotated bibliography of text material in ESOL 1968-1978

Over the last decade, the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TEsOL) has grown rapidly; likewise, many titles have been published to provide materials for the EsoL classroom. This bibliography is an annotated listing of l968-l978 titles. As such, it supplements the last comprehensive annotated TEsoL bibliography, published in 1968.

The bibliography includes works published in English in the United States or for the U.S. market between 1968-l978. . It does not include texts for bilingual programs, materials for students of specific language backgrounds, or the majority of materials published outside the United States. Information included in the annotations was obtained from personal examination of the texts, publishers' catalogs, earlier ESOL bibliographies, and standard bibliographic sources.

The 308 works included in the bibliography are arranged under the following subject headings: General; Grammar and Usage; Pronunciation; Composition; Conversation; Vocabulary; Reading and Comprehension; and Study Skills. Under each of the main headings, the texts are further divided under the subheadings: K-6--Multi-Volume; 7-College-- Multi-Volume; K-6--Single Volume; and 7-College--Single Volume.

In addition, the bibliography includes a comparison of selected features of the titles included with features of titles included in the l968 Reference List of Materials for English as a Second Language. The data provided by this analysis indicate methodological trends and the general direction of the field's development during the l968-l978 period--areas in need of further research.
