Abstract
Deuterium-3Helium torsatron reactors are investigated in this study with an emphasis on finding optimized parameters with respect to the cost of the reactor. An existing computer code (OPTOR) written for deuterium-tritium torsatron reactors is modified and used for this purpose. The cost of the reactor is found to be quite sensitive to: the wall reflectivity, the j vs. Bmax coefficient, the power limit, and the percentage of the fuel that is 3helium. The superconducting magnets are found to be the component that accounts for the largest percentage of the variation in cost for each case.
