Abstract

Detailed studies concerning the physiological, biochemical, and genetic effects of radiation on numerous biological systems have been conducted. However, a large percentage of these studies have dealt with the acute effects that occur following exposure to a lethal dose of ionizing radiation. In general, the late effects of a sublethal dose of radiation on mammals comparable in size to man have not been studied extensively. In particular, possible alterations in the ability of young mammals to grow and develop after recovery from the acute effects of a Sublethal dose of whole-body irradiation have received limited attention.
