Abstract

NMR studies of selected alcohols were undertaken in an attempt to explain the anomalous results obtained in earlier works on the compounds 2-butanol and ethyl α-hydroxybutyrate. Arising from this study was a further understanding of the relative importance of gauche alkyl-alkyl and alkyl-hydroxyl steric interactions.
