Abstract

This investigation involves the analysis of the cylindrical dipole antenna. The purpose of the analysis is to accurately determine the current distribution on thin cylindrical, center-driven dipole antennas. The basis for the theoretical analysis was the antenna integral equation first developed by E. Hallén. Chapter II considers this equation in detail.

Expanding the kernel of the integral equation in a Fourier cosine series, and with the use of the concept of the Delta funcion generator, the approximate current distribution can be expanded in the following series, which satisfies the boundary conditions on the antenna current at the ends of the dipole.

Chapter III develops a solution for this current approximation. The coefficients were computed using the method of moments.

The results of this trigonometric theory are compared with results obtained from various theoretical techniques of King-Middleton and the experimental measurements of Mack. The trigonometric theory is demonstrated to provide accurate current distributions and terminal impedances in twenty-fifth-order solutions for half and full wave length antennas. Some results are presented for different order solutions in agreement with the Barrero [22] solutions.
