Abstract

Real-time software systems usually have more severe requirements and operate in more critical environments than conventional software systems. As a result, their development requires particular attention to certain aspects of the software that are not considered in traditional software development. While contemporary literature on the development of software systems offers meaningful insights for ordinary systems, it often advocates practices that are contrary to effective real time systems. This thesis will address some of the issues that are germane to the development of real-time software systems and present a detailed example of such by describing a real-time supervisory control system that was developed and implemented at Arnold Engineering Development Center.
