A survey of the Tennessee river basin was authorized by acts of Congress in 1922, 1926, and 1927. This survey, which was made by the Corps of Engineers U.S.A., covered three important subjects, namely, (1) water power resources, (3) navigation, and (3) flood control.
This thesis deals only with the water power of the Tennessee River and its tributaries as given in the report made by the Engineers in charge of the survey.
The survey was begun under Major Harold C. Fiske, and has been completed under the direction of Major Lewis H. Watkins, At the present time (May 1929) a final report on the completed survey has not been made. This study was based on the "Report from the Chief of Engineers on Partial survey of the Tennessee River and its Tributaries", House Document No. 185, 70th Congress, 1st session.
