Abstract
The goal of the work presented in this thesis was to develop a programming tool which gives musical Input/Output capabilities to programs written in Applesoft BASIC. Computer Assisted Music Instruction (CAMI) would be an important application for programs having these capabilities.
The tool which was developed is called the Music Command Interpreter (MCI). MCI is designed to run on an Apple microcomputer having additional musical hardware peripherals. The required peripherals are the Mountain Computer Music System cards, the Alpha Syntauri music keyboard, and a keyboard interface card. MCI provides a programmer-friendly interface to Applesoft BASIC programs.
