Publications and information aids used by animal husbandry departments

The purpose of this investigation was to study the number and series of publications used by land-grant college and university¹ animal husbandry departments in the United States. In developing this study, an attempt was made to obtain information from all the land—grant husbandry departments and the Iand-grant agricultural information editors of the United States. Consideration was also given to data available at the University of Tennessee Agricultural Library on publication materials from 20 land-grant agricultural colleges and universities.

The objectives as set forth were to investigate:

1. The variety of printed or mimeographed materials used in distributing information by the animal husbandry departments throughout the United States.

2. The relationship of the printed or mimeographed materials used during the periods 1940-1950 and 1950-1957 by 20 selected animal husbandry departments.

3. The types of material used by the animal husbandry departments which appeared to be most effective on the basis of requests in distributing information.

4. The relationship between the animal husbandry departments and other agricultural departments within state supported colleges in the United States according to printed or mimeographed materials used.
