Abstract

An amplifier which develops 230 Vpk sine waves between 25 and 100 kHz for a 5 nF load was designed, built and tested. The amplifier requires the system controller to configure a set of inductors within the amplifier for the frequency prior to receiving the signal. These inductors resonate with the load capacitance; thereby recycling most of the energy reflected from the load. This yields much greater efficiency than conventional non-resonant amplifiers. The amplifier is capable of initiating and terminating this resonance condition within two cycles thereby permitting accurate reproduction of tone bursts.
