Abstract
In this thesis we look at certain algorithms for the inhomogeneous heat and wave equa- tions, with the focus being the implementation of these algorithms in PVM (Parallel Virtual Ma- chine). PVM creates, via connection of workstations, a parallel environment. These algorithms are created in a special way to ensure that a phenomenon known as order reduction will not oc- cur; our numerical experiments confirm this. The parallelism in these algorithms is obtained by the use of partial fraction expansion of appropriate rational functions. Numerical evidence is fur- nished to show that the algorithms perform essentially the same in both serial and parallel mode.
