Abstract

One marked shift in appraisal programs during the past few years has been directed towards assessing performance on the job rather than on the personal characteristics of those being rated. Despite the trend, however, there remains a seemingly innate proclivity among raters to project their views of ratees to encompass not only what is observed, but also the etiology and mode of behavior.
