Abstract

A high school computer science curriculum that appeals video games. to an average student must compete with television and with Since video games are generally computer a generated, the creation of video games and cartoons can be tremendous teaching tool. The students need to be able to easily animate figures in order to make a cartoon or game. The RASCAL animation system allows them to they do this while The learn UCSD PASCAL using an Apple II micrcomputer. figures in RASCAL require a specific data structure which is difficult to set up by hand. Therefore, the system requires a program that will build this data structure for figures. The program must allow the user to see and change the figure interactively, and without the user having any knowledge data structures. This that is does not scare of SO must be simple to use, program relatively inexperienced computer users. This thesis is a description of the program called MAKER, which answers these requirements.
