Abstract

The writer intends to explain the actual design of a special machine which is one of several to be used in the Hedges-Walsh-Weldner Plant for milling oval handholes in boiler headers.

This machine was designed by Mr. Fred Krause, Plant Superintendent of the boiler company, with some help and suggestions from the writer. The writer made all initial drawings and traced most of these drawings for future reference. All calculations were made by the writer.

This machine was designed with the intention of supplanting four machines now in use at the above plants. These machines were also designed by Mr. Krause, The new machines are to be vastly superior to the existing machines, in ease of control, economy of space, and in speed.
