Novel detection alternatives for capillary electrokinetic separations
Investigations of alternatives to classical detection techniques for capillary electrokinetic separations are reported. Endeavors to convert a commercial absorbance photodiode array detector for use as a fluorometric photodiode array detector are detailed. New methods of micro-fabrication are developed and employed in the production of low dead volume junctions for two novel detectors. The application of the junction as a post capillary reactor for peroxyoxalate chemiluminescence detection is presented. Approximate detection limits (e.g. 2.5 x 10-7; M for perylene) are presented with a linear response over 3 orders of magnitude. A novel post capillary flow multiplexer is developed which improves fraction collection and off-line detection capabilities for capillary electrokinetic separation techniques. Principles involved in switching electroosmotic flow are identified and their connotations for application of the post capillary flow multiplexer reported
