Abstract

This thesis explores the development of a specific Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system for the Knoxville Utilities Board. A minicomputer master and multiple microcomputer remote system was constructed and put into operation for the purpose of monitoring status and telemetry values at power substations and remotely controlling substation equipment. The hardware and software are discussed in great detail because they are the features which make this specific system superior to others used for similar operations. Finally, the application of this system to newly designed operating strategies for electric utility systems is developed.
