Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was to study the effect of introducing inductance into the field circuit for the purpose of reducing the initial transient peak during a short-circuit of an alternator, and to verify certain theoretical equations with actual experimental figures. This experiment is a continuation of the studies begun by students at Cornell University. The work described in this paper was done under somewhat different conditions from the work at Cornell; namely, a salient pole machine was used in place of a non-salient pole machine.
