Abstract
This study is concerned with the determination of the shoot and root inducing effects of kinetin (K) and naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) on shoots of the Fishtail Fern (Nephrolepis falcata forma furcans) in sterile tissue culture. These hormones were tested in Murashige Fern Multiplication Medium at 0, 10-7, 5x10-7, 10-6, 5x10-6, 10-5, 5x10-5, 10-4M concentrations alone and in combination with each other. This was done to determine the best combinations for shoot multiplication and rooting that could be applied to rapid commercial tissue culture propagation.

It was found that shoots on medium containing 10-5MK and 5x10-5M NAA produced the greatest mean number (8.2) of new shoots. Over a broad range of NAA concentrations, shoots on medium containing low concentrations of K (0 to 10-6M) produced larger mean root numbers (5.8 to 12.4) than shoots on medium containing high concentrations of K (5x10-6M to 5x10-5m). Mean root numbers varied from as many as 6.5 to as few as 0.3. The above data can be used as a guide to rapid commercial propagation of Fishtail Fern.
