Abstract

The purpose of this study was to review the original research to determine if any significant differences exist in the effectiveness of movement education methods as compared to the traditional method of teaching skills in physical education.


The review of the literature revealed only sixteen studies. Based on the findings of this study the following conclusions were made: (1) Both the movement education methods and the traditional method of teaching skills in physical education are effective in producing favorable skill development; (2) Neither the movement education methods nor the traditional method appear to be superior to the other in accomplishing positive skill development; (3) With standardized motor skill tests as the most common criterion, a comparison of the movement education methods to the traditional method of teaching skills yielded, in most cases, no significant difference.
