Development of an integrated operator-computer control interface for the PWT Tunnel 16T
Man-Machine interface improvement is a topic of considerable interest and research. Software designers have historically ignored the importance of good interface design, and even enlightened designers are often at a loss when considering how well their product will interface with the user. Techniques that have been suggested to improve interfaces include applying human factors methodology, cognitive modeling, software engineering, rapid prototyping, communication theory and others. However, neither a set of applicable principles nor a methodology of constructing good interfaces has yet been completed. This thesis will contain comprehensive guidance for developing man-machine interfaces, and a detailed description of the man-machine interface project which has been implemented to upgrade the 16-Foot Transonic Wind Tunnel (16T) at Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC).
