Abstract

The PostScript language provides a standard graphics interface to numerous laser printers, and is widely used as a page description tool by various graphics application packages. A graphics interface which is compatible with a standard such as PostScript is needed to facilitate the development of graphics applications on a variety of graphics devices.

The design and implementation of a PostScript compatible procedure-level system of graphics primitives has been accomplished, which may serve as a foundation to the development of a device-independent graphics interface. This thesis describes the structure and design of the system and its underlying data structures, and gives detailed explanations of the operation performed by each procedure in the system.
