Abstract

There are probably no commercial instruments or devices today for the amplification of sound which give exact reproduction of the input at the output; they are all inherently distortional. As will be seen later in the report, there are methods where sound magnification is obtained so the ear cannot detect any difference in form from the original. The theory, though, does not support the auditory impression that there is no distortion. In such cases, to be sure, the amplification might be carried to the point where the ear could detect the fundamental error. In this research the study will be confined to vacuum tube methods of amplification, since this field appears to hold the greatest responsibility.
