The development of a network management query language
Network management is receiving increased attention from both vendors and users. International standards for network management have not considered the user interface within the initial scope of standardization. Without a standard user interface for obtaining management information, users operating in a multi-vendor environment may be required to learn multiple syntaxes and semantics to communicate with each vendor's version of the same standardized protocols. A common network management query language would require that users learn only one form of interface to accomplish their tasks. This research presents a proposal for the utilization of SQL as a common network management query language.
