Abstract

This research studies the history of Cumberland Gap. Tennessee. between 1880 and 1929, and analyzes the impact of outside influences on its economic, social, political. and cultural development. A variety of primary and secondary sources. including oral history interviews with residents and former residents of the connnunity. were used. The location of the connnunity on the Wilderness Road and the diversity of the people who settled the area affected all aspects of the connnunity's development.
