The design of mechanical components for two water exercise machines
This thesis is a presentation of the sequence of ideas, iterative changes and challenges encountered in the process of designing specific components for two different personal exercise machines. These machines function partially submerged in a swimming pool environment and will be commercially manufactured by a new start-up company in Knoxville, Tennessee. They are expected to be of world-class design and construction. A number of different components of these machines were designed by the author with the aid and oversight of Drs. Speckhart and Wasserman, and the difficulties and successes of the main ones are presented here.
