Official butter fat tests of dairy cows

From investigations made in this research work, the following conclusions are made: 1. Cows kept under official test conditions will produce 50 to 75 percent more milk and fat than those kept under herd conditions. 2. Each cow has individual traits that must be determined in order to secure the maximum production from her. 3. A cow carrying a calf 155 days or more, will produce as much milk and fat as a cow that does not carry a calf so long. 4. Age has a distinct bearing upon the milk and fat production of dairy cows. 5. An increase in the number of milkings per day will increase milk and butterfat production. 6. 305-day records are approximately 80 to 85 percent of 365-day records.
