Microcomputer control for feeding material into a chemical process
The purpose of this thesis was to develop a control system to uniformly feed a material of variable consistency into a chemical process. To develop this system, the author used parts of the existing weighing system and added a microcomputer to correct for inaccurate weighing.
The development of the control system progressed in three stages. In the first stage, the author made use of the existing scale logic and did not optimize the design because of time constraints placed on the project. In the second and third stages, methods were developed to optimize the microcomputer system's performance. Of these two stages, only the third has been debugged and tested on a prototype system.
In this thesis, the author explains in detail the revisions made in each stage of the project. The explanation includes descriptions of the hardware used, the microcomputer programs, and advantages and disadvantages of each stage.
