Abstract

This thesis seeks to rigorously pursue the specialty of power line conditioning. It begins with a discussion of established facts in power line conditioning theory, reviews work in this area up to date, then proposes an improved active power factor correction method for power supplies.


The performance of an improved power line conditioning topology is presented in Chapter 3. Work up to date in this area is reviewed in Chapter 2. The proposed topology is compared and justified and the thesis is concluded with thesis accomplishments.

A proof-of-principle 3-phase boost converter was built and tested. The converter consists of a three-phase diode bridge as the AC and DC interface, AC and DC side boost inductors and a boost switch. Results show the proposed scheme improves power factor from a typical 60 percent to near unity.
