Abstract

An application of voice input to a microcomputer for environmental control is described. This application is a useful aid to the handicapped for routine home operations, such as, turning on or off lights and dialing or answering the telephone. Software for the microcomputer was written to provide environmental control in a logical, easy-to-use fashion. Hardware was designed to interface the microcomputer with environmental control devices which provide control of, among other things, a speaker telephone, a lamp and two televisions. Some commercially available hardware was implemented to provide speech recognition and control of lights and appliances through the existing house wiring.
