Abstract

In 1975, the institute of electrical and electronics engineering introduced a new standard for computer interfacing called the IEEE standard 488 (1). This standard applies to interface systems used to interconnect both programmable and nonprogrammable instruments. Two different approaches are taken to design an interface system for the KIM-l microcomputer based on this standard. A software approach, which to some extent minimizes the cost and increases the execution time, and a hardware approach using the field programmable logic arrays for a faster operation.
