Abstract

The isotope effect on some PVT properties of ethylene glycol have been measured from room temperature up to 574K. The results have been discussed in terms of the well established statistical mechanical theory of condensed phase isotope effects (CPIE).


The co-existence curve of (CH2OH)2+ nitromethane system and it's isotopic variant, (CH2OD)2+ nitromethane has been measured near the upper critical solution temperature and from 1 atmosphere to 50 MPa. The effects of pressure and isotopic substitution on the co-existence curve parameters have been discussed using classical mean field and scaling theories of critical phemomena. When applicable, an attempt has been made to rationalize the observed isotope and pressure effects on the critical parameters by applying the theory of condensed phase isotope effects.
