Abstract

World modeling Is a rather new approach to forecasting the future trends of the complex systems that exist in our world. Therefore, it has a great deal to offer to policy-makers and planners in planning for the future. However, two problems exist with world models and their use in the planning world. The first of these problems stems from the fact that existing world models are in need of review and updating. The secondary problem relates to the lack of use of world modeling in the planning profession.


This thesis examines and compares the results of three world models. Suggestions are then given for areas of the models to be updated. Finally, suggestions are made for the use of world models in national planning, educational institutions, and multinational corporations .

The finding of this study is that the world system is a complex mix of activities needing direction and guidance. World modeling is shown to be a valuable planning tool for examining and forecasting present trends and the implications of future policy-making on the world system.
