Abstract

It has long been the problem of the exploration geologist to find sites of mineral and energy sources that have the potential for economic development.

At present, those involved in active exploration waste much time, personal energy, and natural resources on unproductive sites. Therefore, it is proposed that a new exploration tool, lineament analysis, be used and tested as having the potential to locate prime exploration targets.

Lineament analysis was performed on two sites. One site in eastern Tennessee has known zinc mineralization and operating mines. The other site in middle Tennessee has recently been discovered to also have zinc mineralization, and this may, hopefully, be in economically recoverable quantities.

The analysis of the known eastern site showed that lineament analysis was able to pick out the sites of known mineralization, thus eliminating for the exploration geologist many of the unproductive areas and saving money, time, and natural resources.

Finally, lineament analysis was applied to the middle Tennessee area and the sites having the most potential for future exploration were located and recorded.
