Abstract
PINYIM, a YACC implementation of a PL/M interpreter, is presented in this thesis. The source code is written in C and runs under UNIX.
PINYIM includes five phases; lexical analyzer, parser, intermediate code generator, error handler, and execution phase. The language defined in PINYIM is a context-free language. Upon giving the grammar rules YACC produces a bottom-up LALR(1) parser. Quadruple codes are used as intermediate codes in PINYIM. These quadruple codes are executed directly if there is no error in the input stream. However, if any error is detected, the error handler will generate a diagnostic message at the user's terminal.
The language defined in PINYIM is a special dialect of PL/M. Therefore, some features of PL/M are not included and certain features are modified.
