University students' perceptions of sexuality education : information sources, educators, and topics

The purpose of this study was to examine sources of sexuality information and to determine those sources that have had the most influence on university students’ sexual learning. 203 students in an undergraduate human sexuality course rated 34 potential sources of sexuality information. The students also rank ordered the five sources of information that have most influenced their knowledge of human sexuality. Results indicate that females consider parents more influential than males and that mothers discuss sexuality more with both sons and daughters than fathers do. Peers, parents, and media emerged as the 3 most prominent sources of sexuality information.
