Abstract

The objectives of the present part of the project were 1) to design, construct, and operate Von Halle-Jury thermal diffusion columns for the separation of a convenient salt mixture, 2) to compare the heights of a transfer unit and the equilibrium coefficients for the separations with estimates from Soret (single thermal diffusion stage) data, 3) to determine the effect of certain operating variables, such as length, width, and temperature difference, on these separation parameters, and 4) to develop a design procedure for iv commercial separation processes , including columns in a cascade.
