Abstract
The main purpose in this study was to collect pressure and localized shear stress data for laminar flow of a constant property Newtonian fluid across two parallel smooth rings positioned extremely close to each other. In particular, the case where one of the rings was attached to a rotating disk and the other was attached to a stationary disk. The pressure and its distribution were obtained from pressure taps located in the stator. The tangential shear stresses on the stator were obtained by a flush mounted surface probe.
Along with showing what certain physical parameters did to pressure and shear stresses, analytical expressions for pressure distribution, shear stress, and flow rates giving zero pressure difference between the plenum in the test rig and ambient conditions.
